Annette “Nannie” Johnson

Funeral services for Annette “Nannie” Johnson, 75, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 20, 2017, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating.

Mrs. Johnson was born August 17, 1942 and passed away Friday, November 17, 2017, at her residence.

She was a hairdresser for over 40 years. She loved playing bingo and Pokeno with her friends and family. Annette developed many lifelong friends whom she enjoyed sharing this hobby with.

Annette was a natural caregiver. She unselfishly spent her time caring for her family. She played a huge role in raising her grandkids, Ashley and Tyler Avery. She spent many afternoons taking them to the Monroe City Fire Department to visit their Papaw. This trip to see him was done nearly every time he was on duty. She was genuinely proud of all their accomplishments and took great pleasure in watching them grow up.

Annette cared greatly for her husband Gary and stood faithfully by his side. Whether it be while Gary was building a house, racing mud trucks or coaching his softball team she was always there. During Gary’s lengthy illness she endured many difficult and trying days as she fought the battle with him, never leaving his side.

She was an outstanding cook. One of her greatest joys was cooking for her family. She prepared a huge Thanksgiving Day meal for her entire family every year and there was always food left over to take home. Her great meals will be missed by many and Thanksgiving Day lunches will never be the same again.

Most of all Annette was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her greatest passion was her family and spending time with them, which she did daily. She was a kind and GENTLE lady that was loved by many, especially her daughter, Keisha Avery who cared for her in sickness and in health. She will be forever missed.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Gary Daniel Johnson; parents, and brother, Anse E. Windham.

Survivors include daughters, Keisha Johnson Avery and Beverly Hicks Clay; son, Jimmy Hicks; sister, Mary Mizell; brothers, Charles Windham, Rodney Windham, and Martin Windham; seven grandchildren, two closest to her heart, Ashley Kay Viola Avery and Tyler Daniel Avery; and nieces and nephews, including Jodie Davis whom she shared many years of close friendship with.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to North Monroe Baptist Church Building Fund.
