Ana Sue (Sudie) Hooter

July 2, 1943 — March 30, 2014

Ana Sue “Sudie” Hooter defined the word LIVE during her 70 years on earth. Sudie had a larger than life personality and never met a stranger. She made you feel as if you had known her forever and you felt instant love.
Sudie was born on July 2, 1943, in the Antioch community in LaSalle Parish Louisiana, the sixth child of eight, the third daughter of Ana BrazaDee Reeves Hooter and Howard Lester Hooter. She left earth for her eternal home on Sunday March 30, 2014 where she was met by her parents; brothers Duane, Fred & Jack Hooter; sister, Jean Thompson; and long time forever friend, Nina Hay. Today, Sudie is celebrating in her mansion with Jesus, watching the Food channel and Too Cute on Animal Planet.
Sudie loved Jesus and celebrated her Spiritual Birthday yearly beginning on October 12, 1986, when she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized. She lived life to the fullest, a life that touched so many. Her favorite book was “1000 Beautiful Things”. She lived the motto that life is beautiful. Sudie found joy in everything! She loved tulips, irises, and orchids and the colors pink and light blue. Her favorite authors were Oscar Wilde and W. Clement Stone. She loved jazz music. Her favorite movie was Steel Magnolias and she was our true, kind, gentle, southern ‘lady’. Sudie had a gift of never missing an opportunity to touch another person’s life! She shared herself freely. She was a phenomenal cook, offering to cook for anyone and everyone. She loved gatherings of family and friends, especially at Big Mama’s camp. You could eat at the best restaurant in the world but none could compare to Sudie’s cooking! She had a generous and giving spirit! If she heard of a need, she met it! She truly enjoyed sharing her life. She had a unique sense of humor and loved to laugh. She didn’t just say it, Sudie SHOWED her love. Heaven is alive, there is Jazz music flowing (Sudie’s favorite) while she is cooking for the masses. Laugher is ringing out as stories are being shared of her love for practical jokes – tales of growing up in the Jena area, not allowing her brothers and sisters a moment of peace, or chasing her sisters with frogs!
She had a colorful career and work history. Constant was her passion to share her love of life to all that worked with her. She worked for Bell South (AT&T) as a long distance telephone operator and service assistant. She was chosen as Miss Plus Tone, which meant she was voted as the most courteous and helpful service assistant in her department! She worked at the Beldon Wire & Cable Plant in Jena. For the past thirty-four years, she faithfully worked for Combined Insurance, serving as regional manager for the Louisiana territory. Sudie did not have any natural born children; however, she had “her kids”, all of her nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as her “work kids”. At Combined Insurance, if you were lucky enough to be trained by her, you became hers forever. She had a gift of being an encourager extraordinaire! Her positive outlook on life was contagious. She may have taught “her kids” life and work skills but more importantly – she loved, guided, encouraged and yes, cooked for “her kids”. She taught how to work and how to LIVE by her example. Her life is characterized by steady faithfulness and joy that permeated all she did!
Sudie leaves many on earth to carry on her example, share her stories, remember the fun, laugh at her jokes, and cherish the love she gave. Family and loved ones that have this privilege are sisters, Doris Bradley, Jan Hardwell and her husband Jonie, and Camille Hatch; cousin, Linda Collins Gard; and forever friend, Toni Stanford. She also leaves her love and legacy to numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who she loved as her own. She had a special way of making each one feel that they were the most important!
Sudie was passionate in all she did. One of her favorite charities was the Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Program. She donated each year and proudly displayed their stickers (they are ALL there) on her car! She did not hesitate to tell the story that those stickers would often get her out of a bind if she was ever stopped by an officer. The stickers would often prompt the officer to ask, “Ma’am, are you in law enforcement?” to which she replied “No, but I fully support all the officers in the state of Louisiana and pray for them continuously”. She NEVER got a ticket!
She had many altruistic causes to which she donated. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice: Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission, Shreveport Bossier Community Renewal, Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Program, CASA, or the ASPCA.
Throughout the last five years of her life and especially the past two months, she endured multiple medical challenges. In the end, she won, for she is eternally healed. Sudie’s family, especially her niece, Sammi Smith, (who Sudie always introduced as her ‘daughter’) and her husband, Tim, wish to thank the medical community for their care and compassion. We will forever be grateful for Dr. Anil Chhabra, Dr. Mike Sewell, Dr. Matt Mosura, Dr. Betsy Harrel, Dr. Kennedy Lim, Dr. Attila Balogh, Dr. Gerry San Pedro, Dr. Raghu Nathan, and Dr. Ronnie Lambert. We also thank each nurse and staff member of Willis Knighton Bossier, Willis Knighton North, and Promise Hospital for the loving grace and dignity you showed Sudie, who, even while sick, encouraged and prayed for you.
Pallbearers for her home going celebration are C. Noble Hatch III, Phillip Bradley, Scott Hooter, Howard Thompson, Buddy Frost, and Barry Humble.
