Angelina P Maggio age 95, passed away on July 18, 2020, in Monroe Louisiana, surrounded by family.

Angelina (Angie) was proceeded in death by her husband, Salvador A. Maggio Jr., siblings: Salvatore B. Piro Jr., Nicholas Piro, George Piro, and Constance Piro Burgess, grandson Brian C. Maggio.

She is survived by her sister, Joanna P. Flint, of Baton Rouge Louisiana, her children, Ronald F. Maggio (Tessie) of Cary NC, Salvador Michael Maggio of West Monroe, LA, Richard ”Larry” Maggio (Julia) of Parker CO, Lori M. Long (Scott) of Lexington, SC, Kathy M. Meany of League City TX, Grandchildren Sean Maggio, Anthony Maggio, Justin Maggio, Matthew Maggio, Casey Long, Austin Long, Michaela Long, Joseph Long, Devan Meaney, Peyton Meaney, Celia Meaney, and Great Grandchildren Cameron Maggio, Ashley Canady, Jaxyn Maggio, Jacob Maggio, Angelina Maggio, Louise Anne Long and many nieces and nephews, all dear to her heart.

Angelina was born on October 13, 1924, to Salvatore Piro and Johanna Feducia Piro in Mangham Louisiana. She graduated from Mangham High School in 1941 and LA School of Business. In 1947, Angie moved to Lake Providence and took a position with the USDA Farmers Home Administration.

There she met Salvador (Sammy) A. Maggio Jr. They were married on October 23, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rayville LA and lived in Lake Providence for 18 years. Sammy and Angie were active members of St. Patrick Catholic Church and School, as well as the Lake Providence community until moving with their family to Monroe, Louisiana in 1969.
Angie was employed by the US department of Agriculture for a total of 33 years before retiring as an Office Management Assistant in 1986. She took great pride in her work, helping farmers and agents throughout the entire state of Louisiana.

Angie’s devotion to her Catholic faith was evident in every aspect of her life. She held many positions in St. Patrick’s, St. Joseph’s and St. Matthew’s Catholic Parishes, including Altar Society President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Angie served as Special Minister of the Eucharist and Parish Finance Councils under Bishop Friend. Angie was a faithful prayer soldier with the Blue Army. The Feast of St. Joseph held a special place in her heart and she devoted countless hours to the St. Joseph Altar and Table for the poor.

Second only to her faith, was Angie’s devotion to her family and friends. Her family will always remember her as their pillar of strength and a genuine example of Christ’s love generosity and mercy. Anyone who knew her, knew well of her passion for gardening, decorating and entertaining and feeding everyone!

A recitation of the rosary, in Angie’s memory, will be held followed by visitation at Mulhearn’s Funeral Home of Monroe, Louisiana starting at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, July 22nd.

The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 am at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church of Monroe followed by a grave side service in Lake Providence, Louisiana at 1:00 pm.

Serving as pallbearers, will be Anthony Maggio, Justin Maggio, Austin Long, Joseph Long, Matthew Maggio and Jacob Maggio. Honorary pallbearers are Sean Maggio, and Casey Long.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Matthew’s Catholic Church of Monroe.
