Annie Jo Sehon Dugas

Funeral services for Annie Jo Sehon Dugas, 82, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 1, 2011, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Dennis Spence officiating. Interment will follow at Roark Cemetery in Marion, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mrs. Dugas was born February 3, 1929 in Haile, LA, the daughter of C. W. and Clara Little Sehon. She passed away in Monroe, LA on March 28, 2011.
Ann graduated from Marion High School in 1945, an honor student and recipient of the American Legion Award. Ann graduated from Louisiana College in Pineville in 1949 where she was president of the Pre-Medical fraternity. During the summer of her third year of college she was a mission volunteer to Spanish speaking people of Arizona for the Southern Baptist Convention.
After graduation she worked as a Medical Technologist in New Orleans at Montelepre Hospital, Touro Infirmary and Charity Hospital. It was in New Orleans that she met and married medical student Grady Dugas from Sulphur, LA in February of 1950.
Dr. and Mrs. Grady Dugas moved to Marion, LA in 1954 where they worked together at Marion Clinic-Hospital. They became parents to 5 children. She was active in local and regional schools, church, and community activities.
She is survived by four sons and one daughter and their families: Steve Dugas of Kansas City, MO, Dr. René Dugas and Donna Sills Dugas of Monroe, LA, Dr. Chris Dugas of Buffalo, MO, Ken Dugas and Phyllis Henderson Dugas of Plano, TX, Denise Dugas Spence and Rev. Dennis Spence of Monticello, AR; one brother and sister-in-law, George and Peggy Denton Sehon of Marion, LA; and a beloved sister-in-law and family, Betty Dugas Bryson, Roby and Barbara Bryson Odom of Dallas, TX, and their daughter, Pascha and Tod Tietzen and Autumn of Denton, TX; four grandsons, David Dugas and wife Cara, Jordan and wife Ashley Taylor, Jared Dugas, and Tristan Dugas; five granddaughters, Samantha Powell and husband Matt, Michelle Turner, Stephanie Symes and husband Daniel, Danielle Dugas, and Julie Dugas; one great granddaughter, Alana Boyle; and three great grandsons, Aiden Johnson, Charlie Symes, and Grady Van Dugas. To her precious grandchildren she was affectionately known by a French derivative of the word grandmother – “Mom-Ann.” She will also be missed by a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Dugas was an active member of the Marion United Methodist Church and the Mon Amie Newcomers Club of Monroe. She will be remembered most for her ready smile, her infectious laughter, and her ability to see the good and encourage the best in all people.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, David, Jordan, Jared, and Tristan; and friends Lee Brantley and Greg Nappier.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Green, Bruce Matte, and Travis Davis.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Special recognition is extended to Dr. Stockstill and his wonderful staff, Cheryl Minor, Margaret Butler, Jennifer Garret, and Rev. Paul Ford of Agape Hospice; and Mary Young, T’era Dunn, Kaiwanna Gray, Mylinda Smith and Renae Jefferson who provided excellent twenty-four hour care. And for Jackie Montgomery, who was a housekeeper and personal assistant to Ann for over twenty five-years.
The family requests that memorials be given to her home congregation, the United Methodist Church of Marion, LA.
