    Bettina Wallace Matthews, 79 of Rayville died peacefully at home Monday, March 26, 2012 surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. She was born November 16, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Clarence J. and Rosamond K. Wallace.  A graduate of Eleandor McMain High School class of 1950 in New Orleans, Bettina then attended H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial Collage where she was a Chi Omega. “Tina” was married on June 2, 1951to William F. Matthews, Jr. in New Orleans. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in English at South Arkansas University in 1971 and subsequently was awarded a Master’s degree in American History from Northeast Louisiana University.  She taught English and American History at Mangham High School from 1971 to 1994. Besides being a dedicated teacher, Tina became interested in outdoors where she enjoyed fishing, gardening, and bird watching. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist and an enthusiastic bridge player. She was a dedicated member of Rayville United Methodist Church congregation and played piano every Sunday. She was an active member of the Beouf River chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
    She is survived by her husband of 61 years-William F. Matthews, Jr.; a son-William H. Matthews, MD and wife Lillian; and a daughter –Denise M. Lea and husband-Ken; her grandchildren-Amber Jeansonne of West Monroe and husband Scott, Betsy Tobony of Baton Rouge and husband John, Christopher Matthews of New Orleans, and Michael Matthews of Monroe; her great grandchildren-Delaney and Vanessa Tabony of Baton Rouge and Brooks and Layla Jeansonne; brothers-John F. Wallace and wife Charlene of Ft. Washington, Maryland and David Wallace and wife Janet of Joplin, Missouri.
    A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the Rayville United Methodist Church on April 5, 2012 at 10:00AM under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home-Rayville.
    Memorials in her memory may be made to the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home, P. O. Box 929, Ruston, LA 71273.
