Funeral services for Mr. Billy Scalia, 76, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, October 24, 2011, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Scalia was born on March 26, 1935 in Farmerville, LA to parents, Martille and P. J. Scalia and passed away on Thursday in Monroe following a lengthy illness. He graduated from Farmerville High School in 1953 and attended Louisiana Tech.
Mr. Scalia was preceded in death by his parents, Martille and P. J. Scalia; and grandmother, Dettie McGough.
Survivors include his loving and faithful wife, Nell, to whom he was married for 58 years. He is also survived by his step-mother, Laverne Barnes and a half-brother, Tony Scalia. Also survived by two sons, Billy and wife Liz of Baltimore, MD, and Mark and wife Marilyn of Humble, TX. Grandchildren are Daniel Scalia of Humble, TX, Mallory Scalia of Shreveport, LA, Marla Vandling and husband Michael of San Diego, CA, Holley Trappey and husband Joey, Ryan Hammock and  Kate, all of Monroe. Great grandchildren are Abby and Matty Vandling of San Diego, CA, and Riley Trappey of Monroe. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts, and cousins. 
Mr. Scalia retired from the U. S. Postal Service after serving 35 years, the last ten years as Postmaster in Oak Ridge, LA. After his retirement he worked with good friend, Keith Babb, Auctioneer, until his health caused him to stop working.
Mr. Scalia was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church for 54 years, serving as deacon since 1977, Youth Director, coached softball teams and served in all areas of the church that he loved so much. He was also a member of the Brookville Masonic Lodge #161 in Oak Ridge, serving as Past Master for several years.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Barnes, Barney Tucker, Pete Davis, Gene Ford, Milton Satcher, and Buddy Cork. Honorary pallbearers are Scotty Barnes Sunday School Class, Buddy Cook, Steve Cook, Charles Pilcher, and Keith Babb.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 23, 2011, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe
