Bonnie Ruth Barr Breithaupt

May 8, 1932 — April 15, 2014

The life of Bonnie Ruth Barr Breithaupt will be celebrated at a funeral service to be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church. The service will be officiated by her nephews, Dr. Mike Hawkins and Reverend Andy Hawkins, and her long-time friend, Reverend Joe Solomon. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Bonnie was born on May 8, 1932 in Weathersby, Mississippi, and died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Monroe, Louisiana after a lengthy illness.
Bonnie’s family moved to Forest, Louisiana in 1940 and then Bastrop in 1945. She attended Bastrop High School and graduated third in her class before attending Draughan’s Business College in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduation in 1951, she worked at Bastrop National Bank and then Ouachita National Bank. In 1953, she met the love of her life, Robert Breithaupt, to whom she was married in 1955. Together, she and Robert purchased Faulk-Collier Bonded Warehouses, Inc. in 1968, which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1996.
Bonnie and Robert resided in south Monroe until 1987, when they relocated to Sterlington. Bonnie was a devout Christian and faithful parishioner since 1958 of Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church (formerly Southside UMC), where she served as Secretary of the Mission Sunday School Class for many joyous years. Bonnie was a quiet, strong, and self-less mother and grandmother, who touched the lives of many. While she enjoyed bowling and other hobbies, her favorite activity was fellowship with family and close friends, of whom there are many. She adored all of her grandchildren and her great-grandchild, and she derived great pride and joy from each one. She leaves a legacy of love, faithfulness and devotion to her family.
Bonnie was predeceased by her parents, Grover Holyfield Barr and Wilma Irene Ashley Barr, and her brother, Bobby Ray Barr.
Bonnie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert Breithaupt; her loving daughter, Susan Haddock and husband, Clint; devoted sons, Stephen Wayne Breithaupt and Robert Alan Breithaupt, and Alan’s wife, Amy; five adoring grandchildren, Hannah Nicole Haddock Jutze, Hope Hillary Haddock, Michael Paul Haddock, Robert Cooper Breithaupt and Sarah Ann Breithaupt; and, one great-grandson, Easton Wayne Jutze; two cherished sisters, Nadine Wilson and Betty Jean Hawkins; and, numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to those who provided care for Bonnie during recent months, especially the staff of the Terrace of Bastrop, the staff of Specialty Hospital, Dr. Greg Sampognaro, Dr. Michael McCormick, Dr. Michael Lawson, and Dr. Siby Ayalloore.
Pallbearers will be: Michael Haddock, Mickey McCarty, Hank Anderson, Jack Walker, Jerry Collins and Todd Perry.
Honorary Pallbearers are the members of the Missions Sunday School Class at Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church.
