Memorial services for Chief Petty Officer Michael LeGrande Clay, 79, of Monroe, will be held at 4:00 PM, Monday, November 30, 2015, in the chapel of Christus St. Joseph’s Home, 2301 Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Job Edathinatt officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe.Michael died Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at Christus St. Joseph’s Home. He was born at the Vaughan-Wright-Bendel Clinic in Monroe, on September 28, 1936. He attended Georgia Tucker Elementary School, Neville High School, and received his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Southwestern University. Chief Petty Officer Clay enlisted in the US Navy March 18, 1957, and retired March 1, 1983. His career in the Navy included participation in Operation Hardtack and during combat operations in Vietnam, he received the Combat “V” medal. Upon retirement from the Navy, he was employed by Lockheed Martin Corporation in the Naval Systems Services, retiring after 18 years. After retirement, he lived in Hilo, HI until his return to Monroe in May, 2013. Survivors include his sister, Mary Lou Clay of Monroe; brother, John Lorry Clay of Shreveport; niece, Diann Clay Mayfield of Shreveport; and his very special friend, Sister Elizabeth Cahill, at Christus St. Joseph’s Home.At Michael’s request, his ashes will be scattered at sea.Memorials may be made to the Navy Fleet Reserve or the VFW.
