Dale Cecil (Zeke) Spence

April 17, 1939 — September 22, 2012

Funeral services for Dale Cecil “Zeke” Spence, 73, of Rayville, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in the Chapel at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. David Shirley and Shelton Sharbono officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Spence passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012, at his residence. 

Mr. Spence was a member of Alto Baptist Church. He graduated from Ouachita Parish High School, received his BS degree from Northeast Louisiana University in 1966. He was retired from Southern Farm Bureau Insurance Company, as an adjuster and field underwriter. Zeke loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his brothers, where they practiced conservation and the love of nature taught to each of them by their father. Zeke loved athletics, watching football and baseball and was a supporter of the programs at LSU and ULM. He coached Dixie Boys Baseball with Doc Mercer teaching young men the fundamentals of the game. His family enjoyed his cooking, especially his homemade rolls and Cajun gumbo. Zeke never met a stranger and usually knew all their family before they left his presence. 

Mr. Spence was preceded in death by his father Huel Bentley Spence and mother, Cecil McGough Spence.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Holloway Spence; daughters, Amy Pritchett and husband Stephen, Jody Pichard and husband Scott; son, Paul Spence; brothers, Keith Spence and wife Cheryl, Jeff Spence and wife Betty, B.B. Spence and wife Kaye, Tush Spence; sisters, Carrie Nell  Windle and husband Bob, Susan Savage and husband Stacey, Phyllis Temple and husband Billy Joe; granddaughters, Corey Seller, Taylor Thomas, Kayla Thomas, Rachel McCook, Madison Pritchett and Nicole Spence; grandsons, Hunter Pichard, Seth Cody, David Spence, and Andrew Spence and his wife, Jessica; and great-grandsons, Colton Spence and Aiden Spence.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Barouse, Terry Gannaway, Willie Ragan, Dave Evans, Gary Roberts, Don Wattigny and Keith Stroud

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Sigler, Mike Holbron, Clay Phillips, John Pardue, Harry McKay, Eugene Johnston, Bill Hilton, Clarence Fontenot, Bardell Bostick, John Acaldo, Bill Briggs, Blaine Briggs, Robert Riche, Lloyd Gill, Steve Lenard, Thomas “Poochie” Lamb

Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday at Mulhearn Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pulmonary Research at National Jewish Medical and Research Center 1400 Jackson St. Denver, CO 80206, the leading research hospital in finding cures for pulmonary diseases.
