Funeral services for Dewey Reese Cottingham, 88, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Eros Baptist Church in Eros, LA with Bro. J.W. Bunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe, LA.
Mr. Cottingham was born on November 2, 1923, to Fred Monette and Geneva Meredith Cottingham, and passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012 in Monroe, LA.  He attended grammar school in the Monroe City School System and graduated from Ouachita High School. Mr. Cottingham joined the United States Army in 1941, after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.  He served in many different places.  He was a crew chief on B-24’s and B-29’s.  After Italy was invaded he was sent to North Africa/ Mediterranean.  He was also part of the 20th Air Force in Saipan, where they bombed Japan.  In Saipan 101 officers and 50% of the enlisted men were lost.  After marriage to Sybil Blanche Bunn on December 18, 1943, Dewey returned to serve in WWII. After the war he began working for Southern Bell Telephone.  During his career with the telephone company He progressed quickly to Construction Supervisor.  After 35 years with the telephone company, he retired in 1980.  He passed away in his 68th year of marriage to Sybil, his loving and caring wife. After retirement, Dewey enjoyed his hobby of woodworking. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Lodge 1809 and also a member of the North Monroe Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Sybil Bunn Cottingham, son Dewey Wayne Cottingham and wife, Audrey of Russellville, AR; daughter, Linda Lowentritt and husband, Phil of Winnsboro, LA; grandchildren, Daren Cottingham Bourgeois, Seth W. Cottingham, Afton Cottingham Elliott and Olivia Cottingham Tserotas; along with five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Phil and Linda Lowentritt, Seth Cottingham, James Emory, Danny Bourgeois, and Zachary Reese Bourgeois.  Mr. Cottingham’s grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road Monroe, LA.
