Funeral services for Dolores Ilene Jones, 89, of Tyler, TX, formerly of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 24, 2018, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday at the Mausoleum Chapel.
Dolores Ilene Jones was born on June 23, 1929, in Dayton, OH, and passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018, in Tyler, TX. She was married to her husband Joe Murphy Jones in 1947 until his death in 1988 and raised 3 sons and 1 daughter. Although a longtime resident of Ohio, she and her husband Murphy moved to Louisiana in 1968 to return to her husband’s birth state. She began working for State Farm’s fire and casualty division in 1972 and retired as a supervisor in the same division in 1994 after 22 years of service. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Monroe where she enjoyed serving as a member of the church’s Chancel Choir. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking for her large family, participating in church activities, traveling, and spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Murphy Jones; parents, Carlos Alfonso Price and Claudia Price Tate; stepfather, Huston Tate; brother, Bruce Price; daughter, Linda Dunn and husband Tommy; and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Jones.
She is survived by her sister, Shirley Miller of The Villages, FL; son, Larry Jones and wife Debbie of Hot Springs, AR, son, Ronnie Jones of Vicksburg, MS, and son, Rick Jones and wife Gina of West Monroe, LA; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; honorary son, Frank Nettles; brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caretakers of Clairmont Tyler Nursing Home and Heart to Heart Hospice of Tyler, TX for their love and care over their mother and grandmother.
