Funeral service for Dorothy Hammett Hamel, 90, of West Monroe will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday October 25, 2008 at Highland Baptist Church in West Monroe with Rev. Gordon “Skip” Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery.

Mrs. Hamel was born August 11, 1918 in Forest, LA and passed away October 22, 2008. She was a retired nurse who took great pride in being able to say that she admitted the first patient to Glenwood Hospital. Dorothy was a charter member of Highland Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for over 30 years. Her legacy as a giving and loving Christian who lived her life caring for family, friends and her many patients will live on for many years. She will be greatly missed.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Hamel; sister, Minnie Jordan; and brother and sister in-law, Felton and Mildred Hammett.

Survivors include her son, Fred Hamel and wife Gretchen; granddaughter, Tracy Boudreaux and husband David; great granddaughters, Mary Claire, Anna Catherine, and Sarah Grace Boudreaux; brother in-law, Ecle Jordan; niece, Nancy Lee Collins; cousins, Katie Beasley and her children, Melba Wilhite and Jack Bun Beasley.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of Highland Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe.
