Dorothy Jane Davis Haddad departed this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at her home in Monroe, Louisiana. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in Gray Hall on Milton Street at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Private Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery immediately prior to the Memorial Service Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Covenant. Pastors John Mabray and Jonathan Wagner will be officiating.

Dorothy was born on January 2, 1922, in Choudrant, Louisiana, to Elbert Marion and Lizzie Jane O’Neal Davis. She was valedictorian of her high school class and then attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, now Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA, graduating in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Dorothy married Cotham Haddad on May 14,1947, in Monroe, where they lived for the remainder of their lives and raised their four children. She and Cotham were charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where Dot continued to attend faithfully until her death.

Blessed with a strong mind for all of her 96 years, Dot was active in many organizations. She was a member and former officer of the Fort Miro Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; the United Daughters of the Confederacy; National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century; National Society Membership of the United States Daughters of 1812; and her beloved Chapter AE of PEO. She also received the Honorary Lifetime Membership award from the Presbyterian Women.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cotham in January 1992; parents, Elbert and Lizzie Jane Davis; brother, William Davis; and sisters, Marion, Lela Maude, Theodocia, and Elizabeth. She is survived by her four children, William Davis Haddad and wife Judy, Sadie Haddad Walker and husband Don of Shreveport, Joseph Allen Haddad and wife Virginia, and Deborah Haddad Raymond and husband Dave. Also surviving are her nine grandchildren, Allison Haddad Miller and husband Preston, Caroline Haddad Brockman and husband Alan, Megan Elizabeth Haddad, Jonathan Davis Walker and wife Lauren, Paul David Walker, Stuart Gray Haddad, Jordan Lyle Haddad, William Daniel Raymond and wife Sarah, Sarah Raymond Haydel and husband Chuck; and Dot’s fourteen great-grandchildren, Madeline Elizabeth Miller, Preston Dallas Miller IV, William Baker Miller, Anna Kate Brockman, Ellen Wesley Brockman, Alan West Brockman, Jr., Jonathan Davis Walker, Jr., Emily James Walker, Paul Miller Walker, Caroline Catherine Raymond, William David Raymond, Elizabeth Jane Raymond, Madison Lea Haydel, Charles Anthony Haydel III; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also anticipating the soon arrival of her fifteenth great-grandchild, Baby Haydel.

Serving as Honorary pallbearers are Dr. William Daniel Raymond, Stuart Gray Haddad, Jonathan Davis Walker, Paul David Walker, Dr. Preston Dallas Miller III, Alan West Brockman, and Dr. Charles Anthony Haydel, Jr.

Steady faithfulness and a quiet, gentle spirit describe Dorothy Haddad. Dorothy, who was Dot to her friends, and Mimi to her grandchildren, was a true example of a Christian mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and servant of the Lord. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will treasure the memories of her Monday night spaghetti suppers and her many delicious recipes. The focus of her life was God, family, and the church, which was the center of her life outside the home. From Bible Studies to Family Night Suppers, Dot was an active participant, always quietly serving.

Her family is most thankful for the legacy of faith and family that she leaves with them and her example of a true Proverbs 31:10-31 wife and mother. “Her children arise and call her blessed....” They believe that 2 Timothy 4:7-8 applies to her: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith........”, and that she demonstrated Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Finally, they echo what they know Dot would say, “To God be the Glory!”

The family appreciates the loving care and service provided during the past four years by Tracy Juneau, Ruby Nash, Myrtis Young, Herberdine Darrington, Tiffany Ross, and Alexia Dana.
