Dorothy Lucille Howell

Dorothy Lucille Johnson Howell was born October 1, 1918 in Crossett Camp, with the birth being recorded in Crossett, Arkansas. Mrs. Howell passed away after a sudden illness on October 30, 2011. Private family services were held this week.

Dorothy was the third daughter and fourth child of Dan and Liller Johnson. She was reared at Shelton, LA and the family moved to Bastrop, LA by the time she was ready to start high school. She has resided in Monroe for the past 55 years.

Dorothy married J. W. (Red) Howell on October 19, 1935. Three children were born of their union. John William, Jr., Billy Frank and Reuben Douglas. She and “Red” started their married life in Florida and lived in South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama before settling in Monroe, LA. Mrs. Howell was a wife for 68 years, a mother and homemaker. She was a wonderful Mother, a dutiful daughter, a loving sister and a good friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her children rise up to call her blessed.

She was preceded in death by her son John William, Jr., her parents, her husband, her sister, Elsie Corry and daughter-in-law, Mary Howell.

She is survived by two sons, Billy Frank Howell and wife Joyce and Reuben Douglas Howell all of Monroe. Three grandchildren, John Paul Howell and wife Robin of Glen Burnie, MD., Sandra Sue Howell Arant and husband Mark of Muldrow, OK, and Jason Scott Howell and wife Ginger of Nashville, TN. Six great-grandchildren, William and Shannon Howell, and Stephen, Faith, Caleb, and Grace Arant. Other survivors are her sister, Gladys Reynolds Manly of Bastrop, LA, and her brother, Reuben Johnson of Pine Bluff, AR and numerous nieces and nephews.
