Dr. McGee died Thursday, May 22, 2014, at his residence. He was born on October 22, 1953 in Kirbyville, TX, as an only child to Velma Green McGee and Alvin William McGee. He was raised in a wonderfully loving home. He graduated Oakdale High School in 1971 and Louisiana College in 1974. He took Renea Williams as his beautiful wife on December 21, 1974. They moved immediately to Texas, where he received his Master’s Degree in Sociology. In June of 1976, they moved to Shreveport where he worked for the Boy Scouts of America (as he was an Eagle Scout himself). In 1977 he moved to Houston, TX where he worked as a Human Resource Director for Petty-Ray GeoPhysical\GeoSource. His oldest daughter, Melissa, was born in Houston in 1979. He moved again in 1980 to Edmond, OK, to work as HR Director for GeoService and moved again in 1982 to Boston, Mass, to stay with the company. His second daughter Lindsey was born in 1986. Dr. McGee was called to ministry at the age of 13 but waited and surrendered in 1986 at the age of 33. He moved to Bogalusa, LA in 1987 and attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he began working on his Doctorate of Ministry. He was on staff at First Baptist Church of Bogalusa where he was appointed Associate Pastor and Minister of Education. In 1990 he served at First Baptist Church Covington, LA, as Associate Pastor and Minister of Education, and continued to serve in those positions at Brookwood Baptist Church in 1992. In October of 1999 he moved to First Baptist Church in Monroe where he served as the Pastor. He worked for the Lord he loved with all his heart and soul. He retired in January 2006 due to health issues. Dr. McGee was a fighter, a go-getter, a lover of knowledge, Hebrew, Greek, and his Savior. He was a collector of people and loved by anyone he encountered. He prided himself on remembering their names. He lived, breathed, and walked in love until he took his last breath. There is comfort in knowing he is singing, dancing, walking, swimming, and worshiping with his Savior, his best friends, and his mom and dad.
Dr. McGee was preceded in death by his father, mother, and countless others he loved dearly.
Survivors include wife, Renea Williams McGee; daughter, Melissa McGee Coy and husband Nathan; daughter, Lindsey McGee; grandson, Shawn Brady Russell; and granddaughter, Aubrey Coy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cubbie Rome, Maggie Rome, Jim Stevenson, Jack Walker and Dr. Bill Arrington.
Visitation will be 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Saturday at the church.
