Dr. Thomas Glenn Zentner

Funeral services for Dr. Thomas Glenn Zentner, 85, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 25, 2012, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Rev. David Richter and Msgr. Edmund Moore officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.

Dr. Zentner was born on August 6, 1926 in Rowena, TX and died at his residence on Friday, June 22, 2012. He graduated from Texas A&M and remained a loyal fan and supporter throughout his life. Dr. Zentner received his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, WI. He moved his family to Monroe in 1960 and joined Olinkraft Corporation where he became Vice-President of Research and Development.

Dr. Zentner served in World War II as a Marine. He was a wonderful family man with many interests. He carried his research into several leisure projects. One of these was his planting of a 2000 pecan tree orchard with his teenage sons by his side. He had a love for music, gardening, camping, and anything that sparked his curiosity.  He was a charter patron member of the Strauss Theatre.

Dr. Zentner was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Taylor Zentner; his father, John Zentner; his mother, Lucile Zentner; a sister, Marjorie Chamberlain; and a brother, Steven Zentner.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jean; his sons, Tommy Zentner, Jr. and his wife Marion, Dr. Scott Zentner and his wife Maggie; his daughters, Jane Ellington and her husband Joe, and Sara McAtee and her husband Steve; 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sister Ellen Lorenz. He is also survived by his step-mother, Louise Zentner; half sisters, Betty Sheffied, Geneva Krueger, and Patricia Dymond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to St. Joseph Hospice and their very special caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ouachita Parish Library or Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
