On January 20, 2013, Effie Cornella Eppinette Burson passed on to be with her Heavenly Father and left behind a great void in the lives of her family. She also leaves with us a great peace knowing she is finally home.
Mrs. Burson died Sunday night at Ridgecrest Community Care Center at the age of 92. She was born in Rayville, Louisiana on March 24, 1920 to Wilbur and Jessie Fatheree Eppinette, who preceded her in death. Also preceded in death by her husband of forty seven years, Rebern Lee Burson; three brothers, Howard Eppinette, Murphy Eppinette, and Robert L. Eppinette and his wife, Caselou M. Eppinette; and one sister, Lettie Eppinette Reagan and her husband, Pete.
She is survived by her daughter, Reba Burson Nolan and husband, Freddy; son, Dean Burson; four grandchildren, Alicia Nolan Villarreal and husband, Matthew, Ashley Nolan Samaras and husband, Peter, Tanner Dean Burson and Jenna Katherine Burson; six great grandchildren, Veronica Arielle Villarreal, Duke Jenson Villarreal, Sawyer Nolan Villarreal, Kosta Dean Samaras, Nikolas Freddy Samaras and Nolan Dionysius Samaras. Also survived by sisters-in-laws, Pauline Eppinette, and Marilyn Burson Chriceol and husband, Henry; seventeen nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Services for Mrs. Burson will be 11:00AM Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Joe Solomon officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00AM until service time on Saturday. There will be a private family graveside service held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Calhoun, LA.
For twenty two years, Mrs. Burson followed her husband while he served his country in the United States Air Force. She was a hairdresser for many years and owned her own shops. The first shop was The Fashinette located on South Second Street in Monroe, before her husband built her last shop by their home on the Winnsboro Hwy in Monroe. She also worked at the beauty salon in The Palace in Monroe. After retiring as a hairdresser, she and her husband had a paper route in West Monroe, LA for many years.
Until the last thirteen months, she stayed active in the community. Mrs. Burson was a lifetime member of Lea Joyner United Methodist Church. She began traveling with her children and loved being surrounded by her grandchildren and family. Mrs. Burson was known for quirky little sayings and had one for every day of the week.
In her lifetime she survived many things; the flood of 1927, The Depression of 1929, typhoid fever and many other crises that came with life while growing up in rural Louisiana. She always believed that life could not get you down; only weakness and lack of Faith in Jesus Christ were the defeaters of life. Mrs. Burson was never afraid of death and told often that the body she was in was only temporary. Her family believed that the mold was broken when she was born. She came from a long line of fighters to survive what this world had to dish out. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank her caregivers “Sheena”, “BB”, and Patti Anderson. They became a part of her family that learned to love and care for her as her own family did.
