Jack Coble

September 15, 1942 — September 23, 2012

Jack Coble was born in Redondo Beach, CA to Royal and Lulu Coble on September 15, 1942. His family includes his sister, Kay, and brother, Jerry.  Jack died on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at home surrounded by family after a difficult battle with cancer.

Jack graduated from Bellaire [Texas] High School. Shortly afterward, he began serving our country as a member of the U.S. Navy. During his four years of service, Jack was a plank owner of the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. America. He was honorably discharged in April, 1967 and returned to Houston, Texas where he proposed to his future wife, Toni Ann Hubka. They were married at Messiah Lutheran Church on November 18, 1967.

Jack completed a four year electrical apprenticeship program. While living in Houston, their family grew to include their two sons, Jeffrey and Todd.  In 1978, the Coble family left the big city for a 3 ½ acre lot in the Swartz area of Monroe, LA where he was able to put to use all the skills learned growing up on farms in Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas. He loved being outside, gardening or working in his shop. He was a voracious reader.

The way Jack lived his life exemplified the ideals of Boy Scout of America as stated in the Scout Oath and Law. His love, devotion and service to Trinity Lutheran Church was demonstrated by serving in many roles from church property to elder. He was Trinity’s official greeter.

Jack positively influenced many young men over the 26 years he served as Scout Master of Troop 8031, twelve of which achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He served on staff at National Jamboree, attended the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, completed the BSA Wood Badge course and was a member of the Comanche Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. His son, Todd achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and his son, Jeff, is very active as a scout leader [as is his wife]. All three grandsons are all in the scouting program. Few things took Jack by surprise but the arrival of a granddaughter, one who prefers dance, cheerleading and pink stuff to dirt.

Jack and Toni have been loyal boosters of the ULM Athletic Foundation for many years. Being in The Grove tailgating, attending ULM football games and basketball games was an integral part of their lives.

Jack is survived by his wife of 44 years, Toni Coble;  son Jeffrey [Sarah Catherine] and grandsons, Aaron, Simon & Ethan; son Todd [Sarah Elizabeth] and granddaughter, Danielle; sister Kay Daniels, and brother, Jerry Coble; several nieces and nephews; and two dachshunds, Kiddo and Taz.

Jack’s strength was apparent in the way he dealt with the challenges of his illness.  Special thanks go to Drs. Weinberger and Matthews and staff. The love and concern from our physician and friend, Warren Daniel, nurses Jody Lambert and Travis Sibley helped make a very difficult situation bearable.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe, Louisiana with Pastor Paul McComack officiating with interment following at Mulhearn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
