Visitation will be held at Mangham Baptist Church from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018.

Jane was born on January 25, 1956, in Arcadia, Louisiana. She went to be with the Lord peacefully in her sleep at home shortly after midnight on October 21, 2018.

Jane was a loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. She was full of life and joy, and was the very heart of her family, for whom she lived and devoted her entire life. She always placed people far above things, and always before her own interests.

Jane was a member of Mangham Baptist Church for over 30 years. She formed and led the Ladies Bible Study at Mangham Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, participated in choir for many years, and was faithful to be a part of service throughout her church. She was very grateful and proud to have been selected to be on the committee for the building and furnishing of the new sanctuary at Mangham Baptist Church. She worked tirelessly on this and other projects in the Lord’s service.

Jane attended school at Baskin from first grade through her graduation from high school on May 17, 1974. She was a strong student, and participated in many of the activities of the school, including basketball. She served as Class President, President of Beta club, and President of FHA.

Jane attended Northeast Louisiana University, from which she graduated in May, 1977, with her Bachelors Degree in Home Economics Education, with a minor in Elementary Education. She continued to achieve additional educational certifications during her teaching career. Jane taught in many schools throughout Franklin Parish and also taught for a number of years at First United Methodist Church Day School in Monroe. Her greatest love in teaching was to teach young children to read and write. She took time away from her teaching career to have her own children, and rear them to school age, before returning to the classroom. She took great pleasure and pride in teaching each of her sons to read well with critical comprehension, thereby giving them the greatest gift in education that they could ever receive. She retired from teaching in 2011, to assist her sister Joan Brown Hollis in giving constant care at home to her mother, Allie Beth Brown.

Jane loved to play the piano and sing. She loved the old hymns of the church and traditional Christian music, especially Southern Gospel.

Jane was a very loyal and devoted fan of LSU football and baseball.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Allie Beth Brown.

She is survived by her father Ervin Cecil Brown, 90, of Baskin; her husband of 41 years, Steve Dean of Baskin; three sons,Jonathan Dean and wife Miranda, and Joshua Dean and wife Lindsey, and Jordan Dean; one grandson, Jonathan Stephen Dean, Jr., and one grandson to be born to Joshua and Lindsey in November; her sister, Joan Brown Hollis and husband Patrick of Baskin, and their children Matthew Hollis and Erin Hollis; two sisters-in-law: Alison McIntyre and husband Mark, and their children Margaret, Catherine and Lauren, and Elizabeth Hill and husband Fielder and children Ryan and Rebekah; her mother-in-law Susie Dean of Baskin; special friends Kirk and Sue Tedeton of Calhoun; and numerous relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Hollis, Jonathan Dean, Joshua Dean, Jordan Dean, Johnathan Calhoun, Madison Harrell, Dustin Hastings, and Matthew Chaney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Hollis, Kirk Tedeton, Sr., and Andrew Mullican.

Specially recognized are Jane's fellow members of the Ladies Bible Study of Mangham Baptist Church.

The family wishes to thank all of those who have poured out their love for Jane and our family through prayer, calls, texts, visits, food, and other kindnesses too numerous to mention.

Special thanks are given for the personnel of the Franklin Parish Sheriffs Office, Baskin Police Department, Northeast Louisiana Ambulance Service, and Franklin Medical Center, who so quickly, tenderly and compassionately attended our beloved Jane this past Sunday morning.
