Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Mae Morgan Ellington, 88, of Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 30, 2008 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA with Rev. Joseph Robert Inzina and Rev. Sebastian Kallarackel officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Ellington passed away Thursday, November 27, 2008. Jessie was born October 15, 1920, in Alexandria, LA, the daughter of dairy farmers, Jesse Warren Morgan and Gertrude Hopson Morgan. Jessie grew up with four brothers, Earl, James, Charles, and Patrick, who have preceded her in death. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class at St. Francis Xavier High School and then attended Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans, where she received the degree of Registered Nurse.

Jessie fell in love and married Robert W. Ellington, Jr, her companion and husband for the past sixty-five years. To them were born six children, Margaret Beth (preceded in death), Susan Ellington of Benton, LA, Katherine Ellington Spencer and husband Thomas, Patrick Ellington, Robert Ellington III, all of Monroe, LA and Dr. Julie Ellington Turner of Peachtree City, GA. Her memory is carried forward with nine grandchildren, Jack Ostteen, Morgan Cole, Jake Spencer, Jess Spencer, Jessie Shadowens, Christine Turner, Craig Turner, Lauren Turner, and Nicole Turner; seven great grandchildren, Delaney Webb, Reagan Cole, Curry Spencer, Cam Spencer, Cason Spencer, Jeffrey Turner, and Myles Spencer; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jessie and Robert moved to Monroe, LA in 1951, where they made their permanent home. She was an integral part of the formation of the family business, Ellington Construction Company. While making her home in Monroe, she was a charter member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and was involved in various church and civic organizations; Catholic Daughters of America, OLF Alter Society, Jaycee Jaynes, North Monroe Hospital Auxiliary. In 1983, because of her unselfish giving to the church and community, Jessie was awarded the “Pro Ecclesia of Pontific” (outstanding service to the church and the Pontiff) as conferred by Pope John Paul IV.

Jessie lived a rich, full life filled with love and laughter. She will be deeply missed and loved by family, friends, and caregivers.

Pallbearers will be Jack Ostteen, Jake Spencer, Jess Spencer, Craig Turner, Sonny Foreman, and Rob Cole.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 29, 2008 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA.
