Jo Evelyn Brewster McCormick McKnight

November 20, 1940 — September 2, 2018

Jo Evelyn McKnight, 77, of West Monroe, died peacefully after a lengthy illness on Sunday, September 2nd, 2018. The family hopes you will gather with them Thursday, 5-7 pm at Ouachita Baptist Church (Hwy 3033/Caples Rd.) in West Monroe. A celebration of her life and legacy will be held Friday, September 7th at 2:00 pm also at Ouachita Baptist Church and all under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe.

Jo Evelyn was born November 20th, 1940 to the union of James Wayland & Ida Jewel Brewster. James Wayland, a casualty of WWII, was killed in battle when Jo Evelyn was 4 and his brother Dana Farley Brewster raised her and her brother James as his own. All four preceded her in death.

Without a doubt she loves her surviving children, Windy (Wes) Bosely, Rev. Waylon (Roxanne) McCormick, and Rev. David (Dr. Shelly) McCormick all of West Monroe.

Big Mammaw’s greatest treasures are her grandchildren, Wesla Vanderford, Brittany Bosely, Bradley (Molly) McCormick, Blake (Alexis) Bosely, and Corbin McCormick. Big Mammaw “Saturdays” are memories they will cherish forever. Her newest treasures are great-granddaughter Lilah and the “due any moment” great-grandson Onyx McCormick.

Jo McKnight retired from Glenwood Regional Medical Center after many years and spent the past few years as a resident of Ridgecrest Nursing Facility, where the staff became a part of her extended family. We are grateful for the care and love shown to our mother from everyone at Ridgecrest.

She is lovingly known as Aunt Jo to a host of nieces and nephews and Jo Evelyn to numerous cousins, all of which know how much they are loved by her.

As a strong woman of faith, she prayed earnestly for her family, friends, and country and often journaled her prayers in notebooks throughout the years. She loved to read and the Bible was her “go to” book most of the time.

You may have noticed that we speak of our mother in the present tense using words like “is, does, loves, are” for we know that she is not lost when we know where she is. The testimony of her life and the promised hope found in Jesus Christ reminds us that this moment is only an address change notification.

Gifts of kindness can be made to the “Building Fund” of Ouachita Baptist Church and/or the “Mission Fund” of North Monroe Baptist Church.
