John Ed Hendrix

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, Pops, brother, brother in law, uncle and friend. After 8 months of battling cancer and winning his battle, John Ed Hendrix better known as Ed, of West Monroe, LA, was called home on June 16, 2018 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born October 4, 1955 to the union of Dale and Evelyn Hendrix of Shannon, MS, Ed was a 1973 graduate of Shannon High School, Shannon, MS. May 29, 1975, he married the love of his life, the former Catherine Lee Carnathan of Okolona.

Ed began his career in the plumbing industry with Southern Pipe and Supply in Tupelo, MS at the age of 17. He was later employed by Weaks Supply and The Plumbing Warehouse LCR before becoming co-owner of Mechanical Systems and Service in West Monroe.

Ed was a member of New Chapel Hill Baptist Church where he taught the Adult 10 Sunday School class for several years where He served on numerous committees. One of Ed’s greatest joys in life other than his family, was leading others to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Some of his most enjoyable times in life were spent on the deer stand with his son, Matt and dear friends, Joel Robinson, Robert Walker, Mike Freeman, Aaron Edwards, John Aaron Edwards while spending time with his newest hunting buddy, Hugh Norman of Albany, TX on his ranch.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018, at New Chapel Hill Baptist Church with Dr Marty Black and Terry Ware officiating. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church with services following at 11.

Ed is survived by his wife of 43 years, Catherine “Cathy” Carnathan Hendrix; his daughter and son in law, Allison Hendrix-May and Barry of Pike Road, AL; his son and daughter in law, Matthew and Ashley Hendrix of West Monroe. He is also survived by his precious granddaughters and loves of his life, Emily Catherine May and Addison Elisabeth May of Pike Road, AL and Olivia Kate Hendrix of West Monroe, LA. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters in law, Robert and Linda Miller of Pineville, LA and Al and Jean Miller of Lewisburg, TN; his sister and brother in law, LoAnna and Phil Holt of Pismo Beach, CA. Pops is also survived by his sisters and brothers in laws, Amy and Rickey Griffin of Tupelo, MS, Bonnie Wilson and Bobby Fike of Okolona, MS and Ellie and Woody Sheffield of Mooreville, MS; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends; his uncle and aunt, Bobby and Glenda Hendrix of Nettleton, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale & Evelyn Hendrix; his mother and father in law, Betty and Thomas “Peanut” Carnathan of Okolona, MS and his brother in law, Thomas Perry Carnathan of Okolona, MS

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey Anderson, Ed Antici, Ben Bridges, Charlie Bush, Wayne Davis, Jessie Douget, Aaron Edwards, Paul Ezell, Mike Freeman, Kerry Jackson, Kevin Jackson, Roderick Johnson, Roye Leshe, Hugh Norman, Gary Osborne, Robbie Price, Joel Robinson, W. O. Shiers, Rodney Simmons, Nathan Walker, Robert Walker, Jake Wallace, Shane Ware, Dewey Wood and Woody Woodburn.

The family request that memorials be made to New Chapel Hill Baptist Church Children’s and Youth Ministry, St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Pilots for Patients.
