Funeral Services for Mr. John T. Jowers, 90, of West Monroe, LA will held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Fair Park Baptist Church West Monroe, LA with Rev. Waymond Warren officiating. Interment will follow in the Rocky Branch Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.Mr. Jowers was born on October 16, 1925 and passed away at his residence in West Monroe, LA on August 17, 2016. He was a longtime active member of Fair Park Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon for many years. Mr. Jowers was a United States Army Veteran, serving during WWII and the Korean War and was immediately promoted from PFC to the rank of Sargent after the battle fought in WWII. In 2012, because of his service he provided by protecting the French during WWII, he was awarded the Chevalier De La Legion D’Honneur by the French Government which is the highest honor given to an individual who is a non-French citizen. Also, he received the Silver Star Award for his heroism. In 1959, he opened Jowers Grocery along with his brothers on White’s Ferry Road in West Monroe and was the owner and operator for almost 50 years. Mr. Jowers had been in the grocery business since the age of 12 and worked until the age of 83. He was known by numerous citizens of the community for being a meat cutter and the owner of Jowers. Mr. Jowers was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Jowers; brothers, Jewel, Horace, Raymond and Clarence; and sisters, Irene Simmons, Marguerite Roberts and Evelyn Jowers.Survivors include his two sons, John E. Jowers and wife Sandra, and Donny Jowers and wife Carla; grandchildren, Scotti Jowers, Danny Jowers, Brad Jowers, Christy Scalia, Ronnie Meredith, Colby Jowers and Carli Kindrix; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Whitehead; sister-in-law, Bernice Jowers; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.Pallbearers will be Bobby Avery, Bobby Duke, Steve Walker, Ron Nix, Jimmy Walker and Steve Teel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 19, 2016 at Fair Park Baptist Church.Memorials may be made to Fair Park Baptist Church.
