Julius Gregory "Greg" Luft

May 21, 1969 — October 13, 2020

Julius Gregory “Greg” Luft was born May 21, 1969 in Mildenhall, England, and called by God to his heavenly home Tuesday, October 13, 2020. His 51 years of service to his family, his faith, his friends, and his fellowman will be celebrated at Swartz First Baptist Church, Saturday, October 17, 2020, at 3:00 PM. Private interment will follow in Loch Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe. Visitation with the family will be prior to services from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM.

Following his graduation with honors from the School of Construction Management at Northeast Louisiana University, Greg would go on to work as Account Manager his entire professional career. Furthering his career, Greg moved with his wife, Holly, to Albany, Georgia, and then on to Brooklet, Georgia, where they made their home and raised their two sons. They immediately found a Christian family at Leefield Baptist Church where they joined in faithful service to God and the community. For several years he served as a member of the Leefield Volunteer Fire Station.

Greg was greeted into heaven by his dad, Larry Luft; his maternal grandparents, Curtis “PaPa” and Hazel “Granny” Moore, and paternal grandparents, Albert “PawPaw” and Ora Mae “MawMaw” McNease; mother-in-law, Alice Mae Leonard; grandparents-in-law, Jessie “PaPa” and Dollie “Mamaw” Johnson, and a host of family and friends who have gone before him.

Greg is survived by his wife of 27 years, Holly Ann Leonard Luft, and two sons, Nathan Curtis Luft and Jacob Gregory Luft; mother, Helen Ann Moore Luft; brother, Joseph Lee Luft; great aunts, Hazel Trichel Biedenbender and Pauline Haynes Hebb; maternal aunts and uncles, Melissa and John T. Robertson, Linda R. and Daniel O’Neal, Curtis Edward and Margaret Moore, and Michael and Tammie Moore; and numerous cousins.

Greg’s Southern Heritage was an important part of his life. Early in life, God put in front of him an opportunity to work for McBroom Monuments while he put himself thru college. There he honed a skill in the care of tombstones. He would go on to use this skill to honor those of his Southern Heritage. He was an active member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Ogeechee Rifles Camp 941, serving as 2nd Lt. Commander. As he traveled thru Georgia, South and North Carolina and Florida weekly with his job he would spend his free time searching thru cemeteries to find tombstones of the Civil War Veterans, repairing, and cleaning them, and resetting the stones. This was his way of honoring those who gave so much to his homeland.

Serving as pallbearers are Joseph Luft, Jimmy Cloessner, Todd Ramsey, Adam Moore, Zach Moore, and Clay Moore. Honorary pallbearers are Todd McBroom, Dennis Leonard, Johnny Leonard, George Leonard, Roy Tarver, Dennis Wiggins, And Randy Proctor.
