Leon Sivils

Leon Sivils died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at his home in Monroe surrounded by his family.  He was 79.  Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, in the chapel at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Rev. Kenneth Johnson and Rev. Wesley Pittman officiating.  Interment will follow in the Loch Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mulhearn Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years Veda Myers Sivils, son Brian Sivils and his wife Cj Sartor, son Keith Sivils and his wife Daphne, daughter Delia Sivils Ebert and her husband Brad Ebert, daughter Regina (Regi) Sivils Wilder, granddaughter Whitney Anne Sivils and great-grandchildren Shannan and Jacob Sutherland, granddaughter Lindsey Sivils, grandson Garrett Sivils, grandson Trey Meyer and great-grandson Tyler, granddaughter Ashley Meyer Penry, her husband Troy Penry and great-grandson Aiden, granddaughter Bailey Meredith, grandsons Seth and Jesse McNew, granddaughter Ashlee Wilder, grandson Jake Ebert, brother Robert Sivils and his wife Mary, brother Stanford Sivils, brother Roy Sivils and his wife Katie, many nieces and nephews, and his devoted companion Buddy. He was preceded in death by his father Jesse C. Sivils, his mother Myrtle Holcomb Sivils, of Wilmot, AR, his son Stephen Sivils of Monroe, and his granddaughter Emily Elizabeth Sivils of Monroe..

Mr. Sivils was born December 9, 1932 in Wilmot, AR.  From the time he was a child, music was an important part of his life.  He and his brothers sang as a gospel quartet in churches and for revivals throughout the south.  As a young man he served in the U.S. Army as a communications officer during the Korean Conflict.  When he returned home he continued singing with his brothers and served as music director in several churches including Faith Baptist Church in Monroe, Loch Arbor Baptist Church in Monroe, LA, White Avenue Baptist Church in Bastrop, LA, Westview Baptist Church in Jackson, MS, and LaBelle Baptist Church in LaBelle, TX.  In the 1940’s the quartet had a radio show on KTRY in Bastrop. When singing with the Spiritualaires, He recorded an album.  He continued his music ministry even during his work as credit manager for Fair Stores.   In 1971, he returned to Ouachita Parish and founded TAC, a credit management company.  Eventually he was asked to be secretary-treasurer of the Lakeshore Sewer District, which led to his own utility business, L & R Utilities.  L & R grew to handle the operations of utility companies throughout Louisiana.  After retiring he and his wife Veda traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe.

Pallbearers will be Keith Sivils, Garrett Sivils, Jason Crawford, Doug Underwood, Trey Telano, Jeff McNew, Bobby Wilder, and Ben Tidwell.

The family requests memorial gifts to be made to the Cancer Foundation League of Northeast Louisiana or the Loch Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
