Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille “Lue” Tornatore LaPietra, age 76, of Monroe, will be at 11:00 AM Monday, November 1, 2010, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Msgr. Edmund Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. LaPietra was born in Monroe, LA on November 21, 1933 and passed away on Friday, October 29, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center. During her life she was employed by the Criminal Division of the Ouachita Parish Clerk of Court’s office and Troy and Nichols/Chase Mortgage She was a past member and officer of the Progressive Men’s Club Women’s Auxiliary and the Monroe Women’s Bowling Association. In her earlier years, she was honored to be the first homecoming queen at St. Matthew’s High School, being escorted by the football captain, Jesse “Bucky” LaPietra, who would later escort her down the church isle to be his wife of 57 years.

One of her passions in life included following her strong Italian tradition of cooking on Sundays and holidays to be enjoyed by her family. Her table was always open to share in the joy of her cooking and togetherness. Her motto was “feed them and they will come”. She was well known for the Italian Christmas cookies baked in her home every year by her and her extended family to be shared in the community. She enjoyed trips to New Orleans and the beach.

Words cannot express what a wonderful loving and caring mother, Nana, Mammie and sister she was. Her love for her family was endless. During her lifetime, the lesson she strived to teach all was to keep close, love each other and show kindness.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse M. LaPietra, Sr.; her parents, Jock and Anna Tornatore; a daughter, Belinda LaPietra Miller; and a brother, Peter “PJ” Tornatore.

Survivors include her daughters, Cathy Gates and husband, Wiley, Toni Green and husband, Sidney; a son, Dr. Jesse M. LaPietra, Jr. and wife, Robin; grandchildren, Charity Gill, Tiffany Green Terra and husband Bryan, Heather Miller, Zachary LaPietra, Payton LaPietra, and Reagan LaPietra; great-grandchildren, Scarlett Hammond, Brayden and Briley Terra; sister, Anna DeMers and husband H.J.; brother Sam Tornatore; and her very special sister, Rosemary Crowson.

Pallbearers will be Patrick DeMers, Billy C. Puckett, Darren A. Green, Michael Swallow, Bill Heard, Rocky Guirlando, and special friends Larry W. Hall and Jerry L. Ford

Visitation will be Sunday, October 31, 2010, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a Vigil Wake Service at 6:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
