Lynn "Houston" Roark

September 20, 1939 — January 2, 2021

Lynn “Houston” Roark, 81, of West Monroe, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Rosemont Assisted Living Home.

Houston was born in New Orleans, LA on September 20, 1939 and raised by his parents, Jesse “JR” and Thelma Smith Roark. He graduated from West Monroe High School in 1957 and went to Greenville College in Illinois to obtain a Business Administration degree. He later completed post-graduate work at Northeast Louisiana University.

Houston was an active member of the Monroe Jaycees and served as executive director for the Miss Louisiana Pageant in 1972. He worked in the family business as a salesman at Roark Music Company in Monroe for several years before going to Burney’s Furniture where he remained for over 35 years. He was named Salesman of the month and Salesman of the year multiple times and was very appreciative for all of his customers and to his bosses, Bob Foss and Virginia and Charles Dunaway. Mr. Roark was a member of First Baptist Church in West Monroe and attended his Life Group regularly along with hosting bible studies and Christmas parties in his home. Houston had been a resident at Rosemont Assisted Living for seven years. Houston loved playing the piano, dancing, playing cards or dominos, and puzzles. He was a “people person” and never met a stranger.

Most important in his life were his two children, Carrie and Jason, and his many grandchildren. He enjoyed attending West Monroe High School football games and going to watch his grandsons play baseball and football, and his granddaughters cheer and dance.

He is preceded in death by his parents, JR and Thelma Roark. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Janice Roark; his children, Carrie and Chris Ferguson, Jason and Amber Roark; and his grandchildren, Lauren and Devin Yarborough, Lynsey and Drew Ferguson, Case, Tyler, and Blake Roark, and Dillion Riggs.

Graveside services will be held at the Hasley Memorial Pavilion on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 4:00 pm under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of West Monroe or to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
