Funeral Services for Mrs. Maria Soignier Black, 98, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA with Fr. Frank Coens officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paschal’s Church Cemetery in West Monroe, LA.
Mrs. Black was born on April 14, 1912 in Arnaudville, LA and passed away at the Rosemont Assisted Living in West Monroe, LA on February 26, 2011. She was a charter member of St. Paschal’s Catholic Church, where she served as a member of the Altar Society. Mrs. Black also received the Bishop’s Award for her service. She enjoyed gardening and also making ceramics at the Senior Center. Mrs. Black is preceded in death by her husband, Everett Black and by 9 siblings.
Survivors include her children, Roland Black and wife, Bobbie, Rita Albritton and husband, Bill and Rhonda Schleuter and husband, Ron; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and two sisters, Elodie Hays and Etta Mouliere.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Black, Roger Flanagan, Joe Soignier, Chris Soignier, Richard Soignier, and Ralph Alvarado.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, February 28, 2011 at Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Janice Seegers, Chris and Melanie Sasser and to the staff of Rosemont Assisted Living for the care of Mrs. Black over the years.
