Marie Labella Rains

Memorial services for Marie Labella Rains, 72, of West Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Job Edathinatt officiating. Also, memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Landry Seafood, 8000 Lakeshore Drive, New Orleans, LA.
Mrs. Rains passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Christus St. Joseph’s Home. Marie lived life with a passion! She loved with a big heart and she had a strong faith in God. She loved her family and her Italian heritage. Marie cared deeply about social causes and equality. She was a New Orleans girl at heart – born and bred. She was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and aunt. Marie could create anything and did so through her skills as a chef, poet, artist, writer, and florist. She had deep wisdom which she shared freely with others. She was a free spirit and a provocator’! She walked in beauty. “Cuore del mio Cuore” – (heart of my heart)
In Marie’s words, this is how she wanted to be remembered: “Live life with passion, live with the innocence of a child, always be grateful, smile through your tears and sorrow. Love, Laugh, Live!”
Mrs. Rains was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Dora Labella; daughter, Alice Katherine Rains; husband, William Jackson Rains; and sister, Lena Labella.
Survivors include two daughters, Mitzie Rains Meyers and Donna Rains Blackwell; four granddaughters, Shannon, Stevi, Madeline, and Alyssa; two sisters, Barbara Platz and Cecile Feeney; and one brother, John Labella.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
