Marion "Pud" Huckaby Harris

May 27, 1936 — February 1, 2022

Funeral services for Mrs. Marion “Pud” Huckaby Harris, 85, of Calhoun, Louisiana, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Monroe, LA, with Reverend T. Whitfield “Whit” Stodghill, III officiating. Interment will be held in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA.

Mrs. Harris was born on May 27, 1936, in New Orleans, Louisiana and died on February 1, 2022. She grew up in Monroe on Bayou Desiard and graduated from Neville High School in 1954. In 1958, Pud graduated from L.S.U. with a degree in Elementary Education and married Peter “Pete” Harris, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, a few months later. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Jr. League of Monroe and Kappa Delta Sorority, serving as treasurer of the alumnae association of Monroe. In addition to raising her own four children, she taught, loved, and shaped the lives of over a thousand children as a second-grade teacher. She retired from Drew Elementary in West Monroe after teaching in Ouachita Parish for over twenty years. Mrs. Harris was a life-long Episcopalian and taught school at Grace Episcopal. Pud modeled unconditional love, never speaking ill of anyone. She kept everyone’s secrets or hardships confidential. She showed genuine concern for others and would often delight her grandchildren with her generosity.

Mrs. Harris loved her husband of 52 years, her four children, their spouses, and her nine grandchildren. She cherished her friends and their families. Pud never left the house without her lipstick, but she hated to have her picture taken. Like most southern ladies, Pud often worried about her children and grandchildren, defended her children like a mama tiger, had grit, and a great sense of humor. Pud was not attached to material possessions and was truly content with what she had. One of her many gifts was that she could “work a room” as smoothly as a politician and would often introduce people to each other by mentioning their shared common connections.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Peter Kenfield “Pete” Harris, Sr.; her parents, Lt. Colonel Wayne Henry Huckaby and Mrs. Marion Hart Huckaby; her father and mother-in-law, Lucian Haywood Harris, Jr., and Agnes Kenfield Harris; her brother-in-law, Lucian H. Harris and his wife, Louise Harris.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her four children, Marion Harris Cianciolo and husband, Mark Cianciolo, Peter Kenfield "Ken" Harris, Jr. and wife, Shannon Murry Harris, Wayne Huckaby Harris, Amy Harris Cassreino and husband, Milton Harold "Trey" Cassreino, III; grandchildren, Corgan Wayne Harris, Luke Thomas Cianciolo, Lauren Marie Cianciolo, Zachary Thomas Harris, Cody Michael Harris, Aubrey Jacob Harris, Kasey Tyler Harris, Caitlyn Elaine Cassreino and Lila Adele Cassreino; brother-in-law, Michael Badgely "Mike" Harris and wife, Jeri Harris; nieces and nephews, Paula Harris Nemethy and husband, Jim Nemethy, Eric Roueche Harris, Ken Morrow, Fred Morrow and Vicki Hoffman.

Pallbearers will be Joel Moncrief, Jimmy Pitts, Luke Cianciolo, and Cody Harris.
