Funeral services for Mrs. Mary H. Nicklas, 71, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 1, 2007, at North Monroe Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Dye, Rev. Warren Eckhardt, and Rev. David Worthington officiating. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Lillie, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mrs. Nicklas passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and loved ones on Thursday, August 30, 2007. She was a devoted Christian, a member of North Monroe Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also served as a Group Leader for Bible Study Fellowship for seven years, and was a member of the DAR. She was employed at NLU for several years in Admissions, and earlier served as Church Secretary at College Place Baptist, and Hartford House.
She was born in Muskogee, OK on April 13, 1936 to parents Robert and Kathryn Bach. Her maternal great-grandfather was Chief of the Chickasaw Nation, and she was an active member of the Chickasaw Tribe.

A favorite quote of Mary’s describes her beliefs and the way she lived: “Let us not pray for easier lives as much as for greater power to bring blessing out of every pressure and every trial.”

She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Merrill “Sleepy” Nicklas; four children and their spouses, Terry and James Eppinette, Kim and Wes Loflin, Cindy and Brant Mathieu, and Mike and Mary Nicklas; seven grandchildren, Nicki Loflin, John Reed Loflin, Erin Eppinette, Sara Eppinette, Kasie Eppinette, Brantley Mathieu, and Kristen Mathieu; a brother, Bob Holland; and an aunt, Charlotte Austin.

Pallbearers will be Jim Becken, John Crow, Bill Crow, John Tannehill, Charles Pryor, Mac Magee, Bob Lewter, and Levy Redden. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Couples 1 Sunday School class at North Monroe Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
