Michael J Phillips

Funeral services for Michael J. Phillips, 70, of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 31, 2014 in the chapel at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, with Rev. Ben Hackler officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. 
Mr. Phillips died Friday, March 28, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Phillips graduated Fair Park High School in Shreveport in 1961 and retired from Brookshire’s Grocery after working 35 years for the company in both Shreveport and Monroe. He was a member of Swartz First Baptist Church and continued to love the outdoors even though he had not been able to enjoy it for a number of years. Mr. Phillips will be remembered for his love of horses, lab dogs, golfing and being an avid sportsman. He raced motorcycles as a young man and a Triumph was his ride. He learned a variety of handiwork, taught himself to play guitar in which he sang along, and made B’ois D’arc calls complete with engraved designs. Mr. Phillips also repaired an occasional shotgun and replaced the stocks and restained them and was quite proficient with computers. Above all he was a loving Husband, Father and Pappaw. 
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Nellie Phillips; siblings, Virginia Faith, Julia Alford, Roy Mize, and Havis Eugene Phillips. 
Survivors include his wife, Linda Faye Randall Phillips; daughters, Tanya Lynn Phillips, Dena Leanne Phillips McLain and husband Kenny, grandchildren, Michael Colby McLain, Clair Marie McLain; sister, Rita Phillips Holmes; and special K-9 companion, Maggie. 
Pallbearers will be Michael Colby McLain, Kenneth Jackie McLain, Michael James Phillips, Kennie Dewayne Holmes, Kenneth Ray Durr, Sr., and Kenny Aaron. 
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. 
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Charles G. Morgan, Jr., Hospice Compassus, special sitter Tanya Jacobson (TJ), Sherry Jones, and Otis Griffin. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund at Swartz First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 26, Swartz, LA 71281.
