Michael Winter Martien, Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Michael Martien, Sr. (Mike), 80, of Lake Providence, LA, will be held at 12:00 P.M. Sunday, January 23, 2022, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA, with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M. until time of service on Sunday, January 23, 2022. Graveside and burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. in Natchez City Cemetery in Natchez, MS.

Mike was born January 17, 1942, in Natchez, MS to the late Winter Hopkins Martien and Celina Mulvihill Martien, and passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at St. Francis Medical Center surrounded by family.

After Mike graduated from Waterproof High School in 1960, he went into the Army. Mike married Claudia Carter Martien from Vidalia, LA in 1967. Later in life, he attended Northeast Louisiana University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business. As a lifelong farmer, Mike dedicated his life to agriculture, not only farming for himself but managing farms for others and serving numerous other farmers through his work in retail ag sales.

Mike and Claudia had three boys, Michael Martien, Jr. of Start, LA (Kimberly), Claude Martien of Monroe, LA (Alison), and Benjamin Martien of Columbia, LA (Regina). After the passing of Claudia, Michael married Betty Whitman in 2009.

After over 50 years in agriculture, Mike retired and spent his time fishing, hunting, gardening, canning, cooking, and most importantly spending time with family and friends especially in the outdoors. There was never a dull moment around Mike as he lived life to the fullest which was portrayed through all the stories that he loved to share.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Winter Hopkins Martien; mother, Celina Mulvihill Martien; and his first wife, Claudia. He is survived by his sons, Michael Martien Jr., Claude Martien, and Benjamin Martien; his wife, Betty Martien; stepdaughter, Kandi Rainey; sisters, Ella Martien Kuhn Delisio and Weasie Martien Hollingsworth; brother, Samuel Martien; and numerous grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Martien, Jr., Claude Martien, Benjamin Martien, Russell Buntyn, Travis Wyatt, and Jacob Martien.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Shows, Sammy Martien, John Herrington, Ferman Ulmer, Mike Hearne, C.J. Travis, and Hal Waller.
