June 1, 1926 — February 15, 2013

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, Louisiana.

Mrs. Hamilton was born June 1, 1926 in West Monroe, Louisiana and passed away February 15, 2013 in Houston, Texas.

His little 'pink rose' (as he would call her) was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Benton Hamilton, her parents Edna Raye Heider Monroe and Sidney James Monroe and her sister Mary Ann Monroe Moncrief.

Sidney Raye grew up in West Monroe, Louisiana and graduated from Ouachita Parish High School  She then attended Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now Louisiana Tech University), earning a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. While attending Tech, she was an active member of Alpha Chi Omega.  Following graduation from Tech, she taught elementary school in Monroe. Sidney Raye left Monroe and moved to New Orleans where she lived for 30 years to raise her family. She then moved to Houston with her husband to be near her family.

Our southern belle loved and adored her family, her close friends and sincerely cherished time with them. She found much pleasure in live theatre, concerts, museums and movies. She 'loved' chocolate, family barbecues, crawfish boils, and any excuse to go back home to indulge in New Orleans cuisine. The few years spent as a travel agent lead her to a lifetime flying or cruising to all corners of the world. Sidney Raye was a beloved member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood in Kingwood, Texas since 1995.

As a young woman, she enjoyed playing tennis, sailing, and looked forward to a challenging game of bridge.  She was just as at home dining at the Four Seasons as she was enjoying her daddy's fried catfish on Lake St. John.

Our "Grandmommy" was a woman who loved fine fashion, late night television, sleepovers, and her notorious "three-hour-coffee-talks" in the morning. She was a woman who could say a thousand words with a simple look.

Sidney Raye Hamilton was also very active in her retirement community taking day trips and joining in on other fun and exciting functions with many special friends. Her gift to all was that she made everyone she met feel very special and was truly interested in them. She would never forget a birthday or that important event of yours. You always knew she cared.

We will miss her sweet smile, soft voice and cute laugh. We'll miss her kisses and big hugs. We will miss watching her cuddle her little great granddaughter Maggie. We will miss the famous 'Monroe' good-bye wave standing at her front door with that big smile as you pulled out her driveway. We will deeply miss her!

John 14:27 Peace I leave you, my Peace I give to you.

Rest in peace Sidney Raye!  God Bless you. We love you!
