Norman Andrew O'Pry

Funeral Services for Norman Andrew O’Pry, 75 of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 2, 2011, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Rev. Sebastian Kallarackal officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. O’Pry was born January 17, 1936 and died Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was a graduate of Mamou High School in Mamou, LA and attended Southwest Louisiana Institute (now University of LA- Lafayette). Mr. O’Pry served in the U. S. Air Force, worked in the pest control business for 42 years, and owned O’Pry Pest Control. He also worked for and retired from the General Motors Corporation.
“Pop” was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His example of love and devotion to his family and country will live on forever with all who knew him. Norman’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends, gardening, and fishing.
Norman was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He was a Fatima Pioneer and worked with the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Mr. O’Pry was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Lorisia O’Pry; and three infant brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Vernita Fontenot O’Pry; children, Angela O’Pry Blades and husband Jerry Blades, Jr. of Monroe, Brent O’Pry and wife Margaret of Harahan, LA, Kenny O’Pry and wife Terry of Pineville, LA, and Norman “Chip” O’Pry, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Acworth, GA; grandchildren, Elizabeth O’Pry, Rachel O’Pry, Emily O’Pry Hatfield and husband Robert, Andrew “Andy” O’Pry, Sean O’Pry, Mazie O’Pry, and Augustus “Auggie” O’Pry.
Pallbearers will be Sean O’Pry, Andy O’Pry, Rachel O’Pry, Johnny Guerriero, Frankie Jungina, and Tim Hitt.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and a Vigil Wake Service at 6:00 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Memorials may be made to Norman’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
