Patricia Rushton Pitarro

September 26, 1929 — June 7, 2018

Memorial services for Patricia Rushton Pitarro, 88, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 4:00 PM, Monday, June 18, 2018, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Monroe, LA, with The Rev’d Dawnell Stodghill officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Food will be served after the service.

Patricia was born September 26, 1929, in Accrington, England, and passed away, unexpectedly, June 7, 2018. Pat had a very active life. She enjoyed childhood with her parents in a north England mill town. During World War II she was a member of the Land Army, serving on farms, raising food for military troops during wartime. Prime Minister Tony Blair recognized her service with a certificate and special coin in recent years. She married William Beckstrom, a U.S. Air Force airman stationed in England. They were later stationed in Libya and Germany. Pat traveled to the USA on the Queen Mary with a 6-month-old, Lesley. After the family finished Air Force service, they moved to Bill’s home, area of Monroe, Louisiana, and operated Day House Movers. Years later, Pat married Salvador Pitarro. Pat’s widowed mother, Helen, moved in with Pat for several years prior to her death. Pat, Helen, and Sal travelled extensively in Europe and the United States. They even rode camels to visit the Pyramids in Egypt. Pat was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for many years. She enjoyed the company of her friends and neighbors, and especially cherished several other English immigrants who met together in an “English Club”. Pat loved her beautiful house and yard, which overlooks the bayou, and enjoyed dancing with Sal. She had a knack for growing flowers, especially African violets. Her life was filled with many visits with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Hesketh Rushton and Helen Westwell Rushton; husband, William Harrison Beckstrom; husband, Salvador Christopher Pitarro; and son, John Edward Beckstrom.

Survivors include her daughter, Lesley Beckstrom and husband Mike; grandchildren, Brian Beckstrom and wife Claudia, Brandon Beckstrom, Ashley Beckstrom Taylor, and Nathan Beckstrom; great grandchildren, Natalie Taylor, Adriana Taylor, Reagan Beckstrom, Alexander Valentin, and Kenzie Beckstrom; cousin, Ted Hartley and wife Pat; step-daughters, Carol Ann Pitarro Brantley, and Sandra Bennett; and other members of her and Sal Pitarro’s family.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the many neighbors and friends who helped so much after the sudden passing of Sal Pitarro in April 2018, and now with the sudden loss of Pat.

Memorials in her honor may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Monroe, Louisiana.
