Richard Lee "Dickie" Soignier

February 24, 1940 — January 14, 2022

A celebration of the life of Richard “Dickie” Lee Soignier of West Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 10 AM, Monday January 17, 2022, in the chapel at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe with Deacon Kenneth Soignier and family members officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paschal Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30-7:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Dickie was born on February 24, 1940, in Monroe, Louisiana to Adricole and Adile Soignier and passed away at his home on January 14, 2022, exactly 6 months and 1 day after the love of his life Marilyn Huntsman Soignier passed from this world.
After meeting at West Monroe High School, the two were married on March 7, 1959, and upon his entrance into heaven, they will never have to spend a wedding anniversary apart.

After high school graduation, Dickie first went to work at Piggly Wiggly and later Graphic Packaging. However, he spent the majority of his career at Ford, Bacon & Davis as a Piping Draftsman, Piping Designer and Checker. Dickie enjoyed spending as much time with family, which would grow to include three children, 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He and Marilyn left no stone unturned during their time on this Earth and never left a doubt about how much they loved their family and friends. They traveled all over the country and world, with many of those trips being to watch their kids, grandkids and great grandkids play sports or perform on different stages. They never missed an event when it came to cheering on family.

Dickie cherished his family time and soon after the birth of his first grandchild, he put a pool in his backyard. Every spring, he spent hours getting it ready as a gathering place for his grandkids and later great grandkids. If not by the pool, the gathering place was the dining room table, where he always had Sunday lunch prepared after church.

In fact, it was rare to not find something on the stove or in the cake plate when you came over and a ballgame on TV. He had a love/hate relationship with the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers. In their final years, Dickie and Marilyn started most mornings at the Wellness Center with their friends, usually eating his signature biscuits, solving the world’s problems, and if there was time left, exercising.

Dickie’s motto in life was “Here To Serve”. He was a dedicated servant to the Lord, his family and was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. Dickie was a loyal parishioner of St. Paschal Catholic Church.

In addition to embracing Jesus and reuniting with Marilyn, Dickie was welcomed into his eternal home by his parents Adricole and Adile, his brother Roy John, sister Mary Ann and oldest great grandson Sawyer Vige.

Dickie is survived by children Lisa Soignier (Dirk) of Minden, La., Gary Soignier of West Monroe, La. and Laurie Tarver (Hank) of Calhoun, La.; grandchildren Holly Petrus Holt (Gabe), Mandi Sills Hart (Donny), Mae Mae Petrus Masters (Jamie), Lindsay Sills (Morgan), Tabby Soignier Truxillo (James), Richard Benjamin Soignier, B-Bob Petrus (Amy), Cassie Soignier Wade (Nick), Claire Ellingson (Jacob) and Claire Tarver; great grandchildren Chloe and Cole Masters, Ali Vige, Gabbie and Tanner Holt, Nolan and Tucker Wade, Maddox, Harleigh and Mason Hart, Avett and Finn Miller, Easton and Rudy Petrus, Asher Soignier and James Truxillo Jr. He is also survived by his godmother and aunt Etta Soignier Mouille and numerous cousins. Also, a special thanks to Dickie’s nephew Kent and wife Tracey for their support over the past few days.

Pallbearers will be John Corley, Boyce Free, Cole Masters, Mike McInnis, Jim Murray, Bobby Petrus, B-Bob Petrus, and Ben Soignier. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Bernal and Butch Soignier.

The family would like to extend its deepest appreciation to the many friends, neighbors and family for the meals, kind words and prayers. Memorials can be made to the Marilyn Huntsman Soignier Scholarship Fund at the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Louisiana, PO Box 1769, West Monroe, LA 71294.
