Sandra Mitchell Eby

Funeral services for Sandra Mitchell Eby, 65, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 3, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church with The Reverend Bill Easterling, The Reverend Ned Head, and The Reverend Paula Claire Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mrs. Eby died May 31, 2011 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Sandra was born in Shreveport, LA and graduated from Byrd High School in 1963 where she was a top tennis player in the state. She graduated from Louisiana Tech University where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority receiving a bachelor’s degree in education in 1967. She married John Christian Eby, Jr. on August 12, 1967, and they resided in Texas before moving back to his hometown of Monroe, LA in 1979 with their children, Wesley and Christian.

Sandra worked alongside her husband at the family business, raised her children, and was active in the Monroe Junior League as well as St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, serving as secretary, acolyte director, and a member of the vestry. She also enjoyed house-boating on the Ouachita River. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Nabours Mitchell, and her father, David Mitchell.

Survivors include her husband, John Christian Eby, Jr.; son, John Christian Eby III; daughter, Wesley Eby Johnson and her husband Bruce; sisters, Sara Upton and husband Randy of Lafayette, LA, and Suzanne Heath and husband Harold of Lake Charles, LA; mother-in-law, June Eby; grandchildren, Emma Jane, Helen, and Keith Johnson; sisters-in-law, Lynda McGehee and husband Harry, and Leah Stewart and husband Glenn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Don Marx, Harold Heath, Randy Upton, John Cutler, Glenn Stewart, and Harry McGehee.

Visitation will be Thursday from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

Sandra and her family were supported by a host of special friends over the years and express their gratitude to them as well as to her doctors and many caregivers both at home and at the Landmark Nursing Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, Grace Episcopal Church, or to the charity of your choice.
