Sharon Allen Taylor passed away December 28, 2008. Services are planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 31 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Monroe. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30, from 5-7 pm at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Road. Harvey Hales, Dr. George Cannon, George Cummings, Joe Farr, Tom Nicholson, Mike Riley, Bob Durden and Hugh McDonald will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Rayville Men’s Prayer Group.

Sharon was born December 9, 1946, in Monroe. She graduated from Neville High School in 1964. She earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Louisiana State University.

Sharon served the community of Monroe in capacities. She served as a member and president of the Monroe City School Board. She also served as the president of the Louisiana School Boards’ Association. She served as a volunteer in a staff position for two years as Community Investment Director for the United Way of Northeast Louisiana. She served as the chairperson of several local boards of directors, including the United Way of Northeast Louisiana, the Wellspring, formerly known as the YWCA, and the Children’s Coalition of Northeast Louisiana. She was a member of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce Board, Rotary International, the Junior League of Monroe, the Review Book Club, and various civic organizations.

Sharon was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and St. Matthew Catholic Church, and a member of Bible Study Fellowship.

Sharon leaves behind her husband and partner of 40 years, Jim Taylor. She also leaves behind her two children, who were her greatest pride, joy and comfort, Jay Taylor and Tanya Taylor Pesek, and Tanya’s husband Mark Allen Pesek, who became like a son to her. Her three grandchildren, Sarah Helen Pesek, Nathan Taylor Pesek and Nicholas “Cole” Allen Pesek became the delight of her life.

Sharon also left behind her parents, John and Helen Allen, her brother Heath Allen and his wife Jan, her sister Arden Allen Dufilho and her husband Ed, and numerous nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
