Susan Myrie Ellington

September 16, 1947 — November 28, 2021

Susan Myrie Ellington (74) was born in Alexandria, LA, on September 16, 1947, to Robert and Jessie Ellington. Susan passed away after a courageous 5+ year battle with cancer on November 28, 2021. Throughout her life, she was the perfect blend of a Southern Belle and a total tomboy. As a child, Susan was a true Daddy’s girl who could run faster and climb higher than all the boys in the neighborhood, earning her the nickname “Skeeterfoot”, given to her by her father. She was one not to be dared to try any challenge put before her and she genuinely enjoyed a hard day’s work. Her strong-willed attitude to succeed served her well in her adult years as a businesswoman, settling into real estate and rental properties in Shreveport, Bossier City and Minden areas of northwest Louisiana.

Susan was known for helping anyone who was in need. Her home was always open to family and friends. She was generous in ways that most will never know, willing at any time to lend a hand or give of her time, talent or treasure to others. Her smile revealed who she was, a joyful person who loved God, her family, and people of all walks of life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, "Bob" and Jessie Ellington, and her older sister, Margaret Beth Ellington.

Survivors include her soul mate and partner Jerome "Jerry" Braud. Susan and Jerry were lifelong family friends and their reunion later in life was one for the storybooks. They were truly each other’s favorite companion and best friend, always reminiscing of their time together as children while making new memories traveling and working side by side. Susan will be especially missed by her son, Walter Jackson “Jack” Ostteen II; daughter, Morgan Ostteen Cole; and son-in-law, Rob Cole. She was overwhelmingly proud of her granddaughters, Delaney Webb and Reagan Cole in all ways and would brag about them to anyone who would listen. Susan is also survived by her siblings, Kathy Spencer, Patrick Ellington, Robert Ellington III, Julie Barlow (Bill); her “second mother”; Vallie Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Susan's family would like to thank our good friend, Beverly Witherington, for the care and attention given to Susan during her time of need. Her neighborly nurturing ways and loving medical care are deeply appreciated.

Susan never did anything halfway – it was all or nothing with her! In Susan’s memory, please tell someone you love that you “love them so hard”, as that is exactly how she would say it when she felt the love so strong. May she rest in peace knowing that she was loved so hard in return.

A private family service will be held in Susan’s honor. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum in Monroe, Louisiana.
